WITH his fluorescent pink and light green sail and trusty board, Sydney’s Rod McE- win was a sight to see as he cruised along the Mildura riverfront yesterday. The 66-year-old was completing the Sunraysia leg of a windsurfing challenge that started in 2006, and which once fin- ished will see him ‘sail’ almost the entire length of the Murray River in a bid to raise $22,240 – around $10 for every kilome- tre – for the NSW Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council. Able to spend only a couple of weeks a year on the river, Rod has currently clocked up 1400km, and is hoping to ‘reach’ the Murray mouth in five years. “People have shown a lot of interest,” Rod said. “Quite often they will come up tomeinaboatandhaveachat. “Other times they’ll be on a house- boat and give me a wave and offer a cup of tea, which is always nice.” More information on Rod’s windsurf- ing challenge is available by logging onto www.macrod.com.au.
