FEATURE 17 FRIDAY, MAY 8, 2015 MILDURAWEEKLY.COM.AU Support for Parents and Carers The Victorian Government provides fee subsidies for children to attend one year of 4 year old kindergarten. Children must be 4 years old by April 30 of the year they attend. This is available to concession card holders or families with visas, such as Temporary/Humanitarian protection visas, all Indigenous children and all triplets or quadruplets. Most Kindergartens and Long Day Care Centres also offer a pre-kinder program for 3 year olds. These programs attract Early Start funding for Indigenous children, ChildFIRST and children known to Child Protection. Many Kindergartens and Long Day Care Centres will be having an Open Day for any families looking at attending kindergartens or long day care centres in the future. For more information please contact your local kindergarten, long day care centre, visit www. education.vic.gov.au/kindergarten or call Mildura Rural City Council on (03) 5018 8100. What is Kindergarten? Kindergarten (also known as preschool) is an early learning program for children in the year before school. Kindergarten programs for 4 year olds are provided by Bachelor trained Early Childhood Teachers in kindergartens and some childcare and long day care centres. When attending a kindergarten your child’s confidence, ability to use language, physical & social skills are developed through play, art, dance, music, movement and interacting with other children. This makes it the best way to get your child ready for school in the year before they start prep. Towards the end of kindergarten, a transition to school plan is built between families, the kindergarten teacher and the Prep teacher, to help make a happy start to school the following year. Children starting kindergarten are usually developing a range of skills including; • Social and emotional development • Self-care, physical wellbeing and motor skills • Language and concept development • Exploring and problem solving De Garis Kindergarten 2 Christie Parade, Mildura Telephone (03) 5023 1819 Email email@example.com Open Day Friday 22 May, 2:30pm-5:30pm Goodstart Early Learning Eleventh Street 344 - 348 Eleventh Street, Mildura Telephone (03) 5021 5288 Email firstname.lastname@example.org Open Day Saturday 13 June, 10am-12noon Goodstart Early Learning Matthew Flinders 10 Matthew Flinders Drive, Mildura Telephone (03) 5023 5788 Email email@example.com Open Day Thursday 21 May, 6pm Irymple Kindergarten Casuarina Crescent, Irymple Telephone (03) 5024 5496 Email firstname.lastname@example.org Open Day Friday 22 May, 4pm-6pm Kathleen Kelly Kindergarten 45 Lemon Avenue, Mildura Telephone (03) 5023 1515 Email email@example.com Open Day Wednesday 20 May, 9am-12noon Merbein Pre School Kindergarten 18 O’Bryan Street, Merbein Telephone (03) 5025 2491 Email firstname.lastname@example.org Open Day Wednesday 20 May, 2:30pm-4pm Mildura Central Child Care Centre 145 - 149 Lime Avenue, Mildura Telephone (03) 5023 3214 Email email@example.com Open Day Saturday 14 November, 10am-11am Mildura Early Learning Centre 340-342 San Mateo Avenue, Mildura Telephone (03) 5023 2888 Email firstname.lastname@example.org Contact us to organise a suitable time to visit Mildura South Kindergarten 13 Luke Road, Mildura South Telephone (03) 5023 1189 Email email@example.com Parent Session Thursday 28 May, 7pm-8pm Open Day Thursday 16 July, 2:30pm-4pm Mildura West Kindergarten 214 Eighth Street, Mildura Telephone (03) 5023 0147 Email firstname.lastname@example.org Open Day Monday 18 May, 12:30pm-1:30pm Millewa Pre School King Street,Werrimull Telephone (03) 5028 1293 Email email@example.com Contact us to organise a suitable time to visit Outback Kids 532 Fourteenth Street, Mildura Telephone (03) 5022 8080 Email firstname.lastname@example.org Web www.outbackkids.com.au Open Day Thursday 21 May, 6pm-7pm Ouyen Pre School 78 Oke Street, Ouyen Telephone (03) 5092 1347 Email email@example.com Contact us to organise a suitable time to visit Pasadena Pre School 115 Pasadena Grove, Mildura Telephone 0350231105 Email Pasadena.firstname.lastname@example.org Open Day Thursday 21 May, 4pm-6pm Playalong Early Learning Centre 73 Lemon Avenue, Mildura 3500 Telephone (03) 5018 8291 Email email@example.com Open Day Wednesday 20 May, 9:30am-2:30pm Red Cliffs Kindergarten Guava Street, Red Cliffs Telephone (03) 5024 1984 Email firstname.lastname@example.org Open Day Wednesday 17 June, 2:30pm-4:30pm St. Margaret’s Preschool Inc. 174 Deakin Avenue, Mildura Telephone (03) 5023 1093 Email email@example.com Open Day Thursday 21 May, 4pm-6pm Underbool Early Learning Centre Part of Mallee Track Health and Community Service 43 Cotter Street, Underbool Telephone (03) 5094 6273 Email firstname.lastname@example.org Contact us to organise a suitable time to visit Many local kindergartens are hosting open days this year.
