Mildura Weekly : Friday July 10 2015 Vol 9 No 35
NEWS 11 FRIDAY, JULY 10, 2015 MILDURAWEEKLY.COM.AU LONG-time Wentworth volunteer, Jeanette Hamdorf, 68, could barely contain her excitement this week after being presented with a New South Wales Pre- mier’s Volunteer Recognition Program Certificate. In fact Jeanette was so excited, she fiercely em- braced Member for Murray Adrian Piccoli, who was on hand to present the award at the Wentworth Hos- pital Activity Centre on Tuesday. Acknowledged for 25 years of volunteer work through the Activity Centre, Jeanette – who suffers from a severe hearing impairment – was visibly humbled by the honour. She was recognised in front of family members, clients and fellow volunteers, with Activity Centre co-ordinator Sonya Golitschenko saying the long- time and well-known volunteer was a worthy recipi- ent. “Jeanette is a marvel,” she said. “She spends two days a week volunteering at the Activity Centre (for- merly the Day Care Centre), while also spending the past four years volunteering two days a week at Mur- ray House. “She teaches and assists clients with craft work, and is well-known throughout the Wentworth com- munity for her tireless volunteer work. “While all volunteers are worth their weight in gold, Jeanette is just that little bit more valuable, and is simply one of the very best.” Jeanette said she planned to continue her volun- teer work, saying she enjoyed the work too much! SBS digital signal upgrade SBS Broadcasting Tel- evision Network will begin works to upgrade its digital television signal across Sunraysia next Monday to provide more bandwidth for better quality pictures and sound. The works are re- garded as SBS’s final step in the move to digital-only television, with changes to occur progressively across the country over a six month period. Works are expected to be completed in Sun- raysia by July 22, with residents warned they may lose their SBS sig- nal during the process, and may be required to retune their digital tele- visions, set-top boxes or digital television re- corders. Only a limited number of households are expected to be af- fected by the upgrades, with more informa- tion available by visit- ing www.sbs.com.au/ article/127740/Retune- to-watch-SBS. An infor- mation line (1800 500 727) has also been es- tablished to help those requiring further assis- tance. Laser Plumbing Mildura VIC & NSW LIC.
