NEWS 15 FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2016 MILDURAWEEKLY.COM.AU IT’S ESTIMATED that one- third of the body’s daily impurities are excreted through the skin. Dry body brushing is a process derived from Ayurveda – a 5000-year- old science originating in India which is believed to be the world’s oldest heal- ing science. A sworn beauty tip from celebrities such as Miranda Kerr, the purpose of dry body brushing is to assist in the stimulation of the lymphatic system which promotes the detox- ification process. As well as exfoliating the outer layer, dry skin brushing also stimulates the sweat and oil glands, providing more moisture for the skin. The technique also in- creases blood circulation, which helps contribute to healthier muscle tone and better distribution of fat deposits, also known as cellulite. Dry body brushing also helps improves skin texture, strengthens the immune system and even helps prevent premature ageing. How to dry body brush: It’s best to dry brush first thing in the morning before you shower. Use a natural bristled brush and work in gentle circular motions, starting at your ankles and moving your way up towards the heart – the lymphatic fluid flows through the body to- wards the heart, so it’s im- portant that you brush in the same direction. Do not dry brush over sunburn, open wounds or skin conditions, this will only irritate the skin fur- ther. Ensure you shower to wash away the dead skin cells and impurities. End the process by moisturising with a natural moisturiser such as coco- nut oil or rose hip oil. Skin should feel soft, moisturised and firmer. Re- peat the process every day for a month and notice the improvement in your skin. Benefits of dry body brushing firstname.lastname@example.org Health & well-being By Alexandra Treloar & well-being Alexandra Treloar THE Victorian Government has equipped the Sunraysia Hockey Association, Sunray- sia Table Tennis Association, Red Cliffs Golf Club and the Underbool Recreation Reserve with ‘life-saving’ defibrillators. Sunraysia-based beneficia- ries joined 100 clubs across the State to receive defibrilla- tors, with early intervention found to greatly increase the likelihood of survival during cardiac arrest. “These clubs are great local institutions that sit at the heart of Mildura. We’re thrilled to be able to give these clubs extra security in case an emergency strikes,” Member for Northern Victoria Steve Herbert said. “A person’s chance of sur- vival during cardiac arrest de- creases by 10 percent with ev- ery minute that passes. There simply isn’t a second to spare.” Each defibrillator will be registered with Ambulance Victoria’s database, giving triple zero operators a handy guide of where to find one when an emergency strikes nearby. Mildura sports clubs that already have defibrillators are encouraged to ensure their de- vices are registered with Am- bulance Victoria. Grants are available in two categories: • Total grazing pressure projects – to install pre-fabricated mesh or electric fencing to enclose paddocks or larger areas to manage all sources of grazing pressure • Riparian projects – to install pre-fabricated mesh fencing to restrict grazing pressure and pests along sensitive river corridors, creeks or around wetlands and establish alternative watering points. Grants are offered on a dollar-for-dollar basis, however, as funds are limited, not all applications will be supported. We are hosting free information sessions across the Western Region to explain the grants in more detail and get you started on your application.
