The group’s Mildura Mazda dealership has been a major contributor to that growth, almost tripling its vehicle sales during that time. Driven by this growth, Markwell’s Auto Group has just completed the second multi-million dollar expansion of its Mazda dealership since 2006, which not only promises significantly more space for new, demo and used cars, but importantly, an even better customer service experience. Boasting more parking, a new undercover car service check-in area, and much larger display area, Mildura Mazda now surpasses Mazda dealerships at most major regional centres across the country in terms of customer service and innovation. Markwell’s Auto Group dealer principal, Rod Markwell, explained that construction of the new, much larger Mazda dealership was in part due to its reclassification as a ‘provincial’ dealership – a status usually only reserved for dealerships in much larger regional cities throughout the country. “We’ve now been classified by Mazda as a provincial dealer because our sales now exceed 250 units a year,” Mr Markwell said. “Up until now we’ve been operating out of what Mazda considers a ‘rural’ sized facility.” He explained that the expansion was also a necessity, not only because the dealership had outgrown its showroom, but to improve the overall customer service experience. “Customers have told us they love the service we provide, they love what we do and our customer satisfaction ratings pitch us very highly, but parking has been one area highlighted for improvement,” Mr Markwell said. Markwell’s Auto Group purchased the former Telstra Business Centre building, which was adjacent to the existing Mildura Mazda dealership, and set to work not only totally redeveloping the building but joining the two properties together with an undercover area. Mr Markwell said the new-look dealership boasts a host of advantages over the previous layout. “We service about 40 cars a day (Mazda, BMW and Toyota combined) – between 7000 and 8000 cars a year – and we actually operated everything out of the central driveway between Mazda and Toyota, which has about 20 car spots. We’ve had to share those spots between service customers, people coming in for parts and people coming in to buy cars,” he said. “We now have a large central driveway that runs to the back of the newly developed Mazda dealership, where we’ve got about 25 car spaces dedicated exclusively for Mazda customers.” Mr Markwell explained this would relieve the pressure on car parking throughout the Markwell’s group. • Continued Page 2 Markwell’s Auto Group is one of Sunraysia’s major business success stories.
