FRIDAY, JANUARY 6, 2017 VOL 11#09 MILDURAWEEKLY.COM.AU FREE EVERY FRIDAY Pressure on to improve Gol Gol Heights subdivision flows WATER WOES By Alexandra Treloar email@example.com @MilduraWeekly @MilduraWeekly WATER pressure in a new Gol Gol subdivision won’t be enough to even use a garden sprinkler, ac- cording to concerned residents. Gol Gol Heights resident Phillip Warboys believes the decrease in pres- sure can be linked to the installation of restrictors. He claims the restrictors, installed by Wentworth Shire Council before Christmas, dramatically decrease the flow on unfiltered water. “When Council put the meter and restrictor on the house, the trades- men went to use the water and found there was no flow,” he said this week. “We initially thought there was a prob- lem, but it was the restrictor that gives a flow rate of 3.2 litres a minute.” Mr Warboys currently lives two kilo- metres away from Gol Gol Heights, and measured the water flow rate at around 30 litres a minute – an 88 percent in- crease compared to his Gol Gol Heights property. He said the lack of water pressure has significantly slowed down the build, and has forced him to reconsider planting grass, concerned he won’t be able to keep it alive. “With that flow it can’t be done, it’s impossible, even if we put in tanks with a pump to fill a 23,000 litre tank, Thinkwater said it will take five days to fill,” Mr Warboys said. To irrigate his garden, Mr Warboys has had to spend almost $10,000 on water tanks and pumps, an expense he didn’t budget for. “It’s a shock, we didn’t plan for this,” he said. While the flow rate on unfiltered water at Gol Gol Heights is 88 percent less than the average, residents are still expected to pay 25c per kilowatt per li- tre, equating to a 37.5 percent discount on standard Shire water rates. • Continued Page 3 • PATHETIC PRESSURE: Mr Warboys’ struggling sprinkler.
