Mildura Weekly : Friday May 23 2014 Vol 8 No 29
Mildura Weekly – 23/05/14 53 www.milduraphonebook.com.au One Night Stand benefits “Most of our traders have done extremely well over the weekend, with our restaurants and entertainment venues the big winners,” she said. “Most places were quite full throughout Saturday and even Sunday, and everyone seemed to embrace Mildura’s sights.” Miss Violi said a ‘pop-up park’ in the middle of Langtree Mall on Saturday had also proved popular with visitors. “We had a few bands playing on the Mall stage, and quite a few people enjoyed the entertainment and pop- up park,” she said. Triple J manager Chris Scaddan also praised the Mildura region for their support of the event, saying all involved had been impressed with the Nowingi Place venue. “We were really impressed with the set-up,” he said. “Usually we hold these One Night Stand events at footy ovals or showgrounds, so to be so close to the Murray River, and have houseboats lining the riverbank was great. “While we did have to build the stage up a bit, we couldn’t have been happier with the venue.” Mr Scaddan also praised crowds at the event. “Our One Night Stand crowds are usually well be- haved, with the majority of people there for the mu- sic,” he said. “This event is about taking great Austra- lian bands out into regional areas and putting on a great show.” Mr Scaddan said Triple J staff and presenters and been welcomed with open arms to the region, and congratulated Mildura Rural City Council staff for their hard work leading up to the event. “Council were fantastic leading into the event,” he said. “We were working with them for six months prior. “We had a great time in Mildura, and appreciate the people of the region welcoming us and helping us turn this year’s One Night Stand into one of the best ever.” MILDURA residents may have noticed a significant absence from the front of Mildura Ezy- Brew (71 Seventh Street) this week, with ‘Brandy’ – the store’s eye-catching mannequin – ‘kid- napped’ last Saturday. Word on the street is that Brandy may be the victim of a prank played by visitors in town for Triple J’s One Night Stand event, with several sources stating “out-of-towners” had claimed responsibility for the act on social media. Mildura Ezy-Brew owner/ manager Debbie Scase (RIGHT) said she was desperate to see Brandy returned to her store safe and sound. “She went missing around 11.30am on Saturday,” she said. “We usually close at midday, and when my mother-in-law (Heather Scase) went to bring her in she was gone. “We have absolutely no idea who took her, no one has owned up to us which is disappointing. “We’re pretty keen to have her back, she’s been a part of the ‘staff’ since we opened our doors two years ago. “While we get the joke, enough is enough, we just want to see her back out the front of the shop.” Famous for ‘turning heads’ due to her life-like appearance, Brandy’s disappearance hasn’t gone unnoticed, with several customers expressing concern. “People have definitely no- ticed,” Debbie said. “Even when I informed the police they were devastated. “Quite a few of our regular customers like to take notice of what she’s wearing every day, and she certainly stops traffic on occasions.” Debbie said pieces of Bran- dy had slowly began turning up over the past few days, with an arm, hand, and part of an upper body found at different loca- tions across the region. “One of my husband’s work- ers found a hand somewhere on 14th Street, another person found an arm,” she said. “Obviously whoever has taken Brandy has taken her apart for a bit of fun, so the rest of her is probably scat- tered across town. “Hopefully more pieces start turning up, and we can get her back out the front of the shop as soon as possible.” Debbie is encouraging anyone with information about the kidnapping to come forward, while also encourag- ing residents who may come across the remaining ‘pieces’ of Brandy to return them to the shop.
